The Law Enforcement Torch Run® is the largest public awareness and grassroots fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Each year, members of law enforcement, known as Guardians of the Flame, participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run and carry the ‘Flame of Hope’ to celebrate Special Olympics athletes around the world.

On Wednesday, June 4, 2025, personnel from the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, Norfolk Police Department, and Old Dominion University Police Department will come together for the Norfolk leg of the Law Enforcement Torch Run® for Special Olympics.

At approximately 9 a.m. on June 4, runners from the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, Norfolk Police Department, and Old Dominion University Police will meet runners from the Virginia Beach Police Department and Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office at the Norfolk/Virginia Beach city line where Virginia Beach will “pass the torch” to Norfolk. After receiving the torch, the Norfolk leg of the Torch Run will begin. Runners will run from the city line (the Endependence Center located at 6300 E. Virginia Beach Blvd.) to Harbor Park (Lot C), where we will pass the torch to Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office.  (For the safety of the runners, please do not publicize the route prior to the event Wednesday morning.)
