Family Support Services Unit
The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office has established the Family Support Services Unit (FSSU) to provide a centralized approach to strengthening family engagement, improving communication, connecting families with community resources, supporting inmate rehabilitation and successful reentry.
The FSSU will serve as the primary liaison between incarcerated individuals, their families, and community partners. Additionally, the unit will ensure every incarcerated individual and their family have access to meaningful support, coordinated resources, and collaborative reentry services that promote long-term success. The unit will assist families during emergencies, appropriately refer medical concerns, provide resource information, de-escalate concerns, maintain confidentiality and accurate records, monitor response times, and ensure timely follow-up.
The Family Support Services Unit will collaborate with other divisions within the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office including Corrections, Classification, Medical, Mental Health, Chaplain Services, Visitation, Records, and Programs, as well as community organizations and reentry providers.
