SUBJECT:      Employee Transportation Needs during Inclement Weather (Memo 20-012)          

January 20, 2020

Moving forward the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office will be utilizing new procedures when employees need transportation during the event of an inclement weather.

In the event of an upcoming storm the Inclement Weather Transport Team will be activated and will be on standby to assist you with your transportation needs. 

Procedurally, you will be required to call the Team Commanders Office at least 2 hours before your shift begins. At that time your Team Commander will complete a Transport Form and email it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. As soon as the IWTT team receives the email we will be communicating with you in order to make sure we can pick you up as safely and efficiently as possible.

In order to utilize this service you cannot live more than 20 miles away from the Norfolk City Jail. We will have a total of 3 teams standing by to pick up/drop off.  

Please remember all attempts must first be made by the deputy/staff member to come in to include: 

  • starting the car
  • cleaning snow off
  • shoveling the area
  • moving the vehicle
  • clearing debris
