Deputies save person trapped in car

Crash1When a car flipped with a person trapped inside, Deputy Boclair helped pull the person from the vehicle... while Deputy Calloway comforted a mother and little girl in distress.

Together they saved a life, and showed a child that we are here to serve. Sheriff Baron will recognize their actions with a meritorious performance award at the next academy graduation.

Smoke fuming from a car, with a person trapped inside. That was the scene that Deputies Calloway and Boclair came across as they drove home from work on May 8.

Two cars had just crashed at the intersection of Holland Rd. and South Independence Blvd. in Virginia Beach. Boclair and Calloway immediately pulled over to help. While Boclair ran to the fuming car, Calloway responded to the other driver who was in a state of panic and stress.

Another person ran to help Deputy Boclair open the back door, lean the seat back, and remove the injured person from the smoking car. Their quick actions saved a person’s life. It was about 6:30 a.m. After working the nightshift, Deputies Boclair and Calloway knew their public service wasn’t finished.

They saw the cries for help – and they responded. Their story is an example of living out the NSO mission statement: we are committed to public safety, public service, and public trust. We serve in the spirit of the Golden Rule.

Having integrity in all things is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching.
