Norfolk Sheriff’s Deputy Disrupts Robbery In Progress

On Thursday, March 30, 2023, Lt. W. Johnson was conducting business associated with his position at the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office and was in the lobby of the Towne Bank located at 109 E. Main Street in Norfolk when a man entered the business, passed a note to the teller, and demanded money. Lt. Johnson was made aware of the situation by bank employees, approached the man, and arrested him without incident. The man was subsequently taken into custody by responding officers from the Norfolk Police Department.
Norfolk Sheriff’s Office personnel are law enforcement officers whose primary responsibility is to maintain the Norfolk City Jail, provide security for the Norfolk Consolidated Courthouse, and serve civil papers. Our deputies’ responsibilities differ from those of the Norfolk Police Department, but we are happy to assist our partners with NPD when in a position to do so.

The suspect, Edward Leon Davis, 26, has been charged with Robbery and is being held at the Norfolk City Jail.
