Norfolk Sheriff’s Office implements 6-Point Coronavirus Response Plan
The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office is closely monitoring updates regarding COVID-19 also known as coronavirus. The health and safety of those in our care and of our staff continues to be a top priority.
To do our part to slow the spread of the virus, the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with our medical provider, Wellpath, is implementing a proactive 6-point plan. The plan includes:
- An extra level of screening of prisoners in police custody by medical staff prior to entry into the Norfolk City Jail to be implemented in coming days
- An education campaign for our employees and the inmates in our care
- Reviewing and updating existing response and quarantine plan for both inmates and employees
- Enhanced cleaning and sanitation efforts throughout the jail and administration building
- Continued efforts to identify reduction of ‘exposure opportunities’ including:
- Video court appearances when possible (pending court approval)
- Enhanced sanitation of video visitation equipment
- Wellness screenings of volunteers entering jail
- Increase prevention and wellness supplies
At this time, attorneys are still permitted to visit inmates in person. However, Sheriff Joe Baron is in regular contact with the City of Norfolk’s Emergency Operations Center and the Virginia Department of Health and additional health and safety measures could be implemented in the future.
We take the health and safety of our inmates and staff very seriously. We ask the public to continue to monitor our Facebook page and website (Norfolk-Sheriff.com) for the most up-to-date information.
If you have questions regarding coronavirus in the city of Norfolk please call the city’s hotline: 757-518- 2700, option 5.
The Norfolk Sheriff's Office is a values driven organization
committed to public safety, public service, and public trust.
