This morning at approximately 1:15 a.m., while working in a sworn on-duty capacity in the Downtown Norfolk sector, a Norfolk Sheriff’s Deputy was shot in the 200 block of Plume Street. The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries and has since been treated and released from the hospital. The deputy is expected to make a full recovery. We will not be releasing the name of the injured deputy.
In May 2022, Norfolk Sheriff’s Office deputies began working alongside Norfolk Police officers several nights a week to provide enhanced law enforcement visibility in Downtown Norfolk following an increase of crime in the area. This partnership provides an additional layer of safety and security for businesses, patrons, and the community.
The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office is a value-driven organization committed to public safety, public service, and public trust and this co-operative relationship with NPD further enhances our mission and community involvement.
The investigation into this morning’s incident is being handled by Norfolk Police Department. Any questions regarding the investigation should be directed to them.
