Inmate Death
NORFOLK, VA— At approximately 7:26 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, a deputy with the Norfolk Sheriff's Office conducting rounds came upon a non—responsive inmate hanging in a cell. Life saving measures were immediately performed. The inmate was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 8:25 p.m.
The inmate has been identified as Travis Antorio Haynes, 31. He was booked into the NCJ on June 7 on a robbery charge. His booking photo is posted here.
The safety and security of those in our custody is always our top concern. Per protocol, NSO will an internal review ofthis incident. Official cause and manner of death will be determined by the medical examiner. The Norfolk Police Department is investigating this incident as an undetermined death.
