InmateHealthThe Norfolk City Jail has a contract with Correct Care Solutions, L.L.C., (CCS), to provide medical care. CCS is one of the nation’s premier correctional healthcare companies, with all medical services meeting national NCCHC standards.

All inmates who are admitted to the jail undergo an initial physical, and one each year.

A doctor, nurse practitioner and dentist are on site forty hours a week. The jail always has a doctor and dentist on call as well.

A psychiatrist visits the jail two times a week, and also remotely through video conferencing called “Telemed.” The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office is the only local jail to use this new technology to help diagnose inmates on weekends, speeding up the process of prescribing them needed medication.

Although inmates are charged a co-payment for treatment, no one is denied care due to lack of payment.

The Norfolk city jail has X-ray and ultrasound technology. However, inmates that need a high level of care are often transferred to local hospitals or the Hampton Roads Regional jail.
