Yesterday evening, July 20, 2022, at approximately 9:40 p.m., an off-duty Norfolk Sheriff’s Office Deputy was involved in a shooting at a residence in the 8000 block of Glade Road. The deputy was shot during an exchange of gunfire and was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are believed to be non-life threatening. Another man was injured during the exchange of gunfire and pronounced deceased on scene.

Sheriff Baron has been notified and the Sheriff’s Office is responding to support the deputy and his family. Due to the nature of the incident and to ensure transparency and neutrality throughout the course of the investigation, Virginia State Police will be handling the investigation. All questions regarding the incident should be directed to Virginia State Police.
