Norfolk Sheriff’s Office welcomes 24 new deputies
-first class in history open to 18-year-old recruits-

NORFOLK, VA—Sheriff Joseph Baron announced today that the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office will graduate 24 members from its 61st Academy Class for Entry Level Jailor, Civil Process, and Courtroom Security on Thursday, November 15th 2018 at 6:00 PM.

The 61st class is the first in NSO history in which 18-year-olds were able to apply and participate. Thursday, two recruits who were 18-years-old when training began, and one who began at 19-years-old will graduate. Despite their young age, two of our youngest recruits became leaders in the class: class secretary and class president.

“We are honored to welcome these newest members into our Norfolk Sheriff’s Office family,” Sheriff Baron said.  “At the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office, we are committed to training the next generation of leaders in public safety, and this diverse class of new deputies exemplifies our core values of commitment to public safety, public service, and public trust.”

In order to graduate, each recruit must complete curriculum requirements, successfully pass a series of written exams, meet qualifications standards in defensive driving, firearms, and defensive tactics, adult and infant CPR, physical fitness training, active threat training and pass the final examination.

Graduation will be held at the Norfolk Fire-Rescue Training Center 7120 Granby Street.
