Sheriff Baron is currently serving as the Regional Director for Special Olympics Virginia, Region 3 and he has once again been selected as the Region 3 (South Hampton Roads) Chairman for Special Olympics Virginia Law Enforcement Torch Run for 2022. Additionally he has been selected as the State Chair for 2023 Law Enforcement Torch Run.

"As many of you know, the vision of the Norfolk Sheriff's Office is to make a difference in the lives of others as far as we can reach. As the Region 3 Director for 2021 and the Region 3 chairman for the Law Enforcement Torch Run, I have had the opportunity to see the difference that the Special Olympics makes in the lives of the athletes each and every day. I am excited about these upcoming roles and look forward to continuing to work alongside the team at Special Olympics Virginia," stated Sheriff Joe Baron.

“Special Olympics is honored that Sheriff Barron has agreed to continue as the Region Director for 2022, but more thrilled that he will serve as the Chair of the 2023 Torch Run.  His leadership and enthusiasm will be instrumental in the reengagement of law enforcement in the Torch Run effort in Virginia following COVID,”   said Roy Zeidman, Senior Vice President Special Olympics Virginia.  “Sheriff Baron exemplifies all of Virginia law enforcement in their dedication to helping build unified, inclusive communities where our athletes can live and work.”

Stay tuned for all of the exciting events Special Olympics Virginia has planned in the coming months.
