Sheriff Teams up with Virginia State Parks for camps

Sheriff Bob McCabe’s free summer camps are teaming up with Virginia State Parks.

It’s the first year of the new partnership, offering more opportunities to kids in Sheriff McCabe’s free summer camps.

Park Rangers will teach archery and how to set up camp sites, hoping to inspire kids to put down their electronic devices, and enjoy nature.

“Many of these families don’t spend a lot of time outdoors, they’ve gotten away from camping,” Staci Martin, of Virginia State Parks said.

State Parks officials are hoping the new partnership will encourage more Norfolk families to visit False Cape in Virginia Beach, and enjoy tram rides to explore the area. All campers will take home State Parks information and giveaways as well. IMG_2930

Sheriff McCabe’s free summer camps for Norfolk children run July 6th through August 7th. There are still plenty of spots open and Norfolk residents are encouraged to sign up their children, ages 10-14. The Sheriff’s office will provide transportation pick up sites to and from the camps.
