Barclift and Baron 16x9It is with great sadness I share with you the loss of Corporal Gibran Barclift, a beloved member of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office family. Early this morning, while on duty, Corporal Barclift had what appears to have been a medical emergency. His team and medical staff responded quickly and worked valiantly to provide him medical help in an attempt to save him. He was rushed to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital where he passed away. He was not alone, as many of our staff were with him. He leaves behind family and loved ones including our own Corporal Lakiya Miller. Please keep them all in your prayers in their time of grief.

hope headerNSO Chaplain Chris Amos, as well as several NSO staff members will be participating in the Hampton Roads Morning of Hope - a community event to promote good mental health.

Join us September 9th at Mt. Trashmore. Together we can be a part of help and healing . . .

This initiative is locally sponsored by the Hampton Roads Survivors of Suicide Support Group Inc., a non-profit organization for those who have lost a loved one to suicide.

recruitsThe field of law enforcement is ever changing. With that being said, sworn staff often retire, relocate, and sometimes switch careers in general. As a way to fill a handful of needed deputy sheriff positions inside of the Norfolk City Jail, the Norfolk Sheriff's Office held its first-ever open recruitment day.

We are pleased to announce that nearly 30 applicants showed up to the administration building on Saturday, July 29 in hopes of earning a spot on #TeamNSO. With applications filled out and ready to go, they gathered in the large training classroom to hear personal stories from senior staff members and take both the written and physical agility assessments.

ESGR LogoSheriff Baron was presented with an award on behalf of the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. He and the Norfolk Sheriff's Office were both nominated by NSO Deputy Stephen Smith, who is also a sergeant in the Army National Guard.

Sheriff Baron would like to share with you what Deputy Smith wrote in his own words. He was presented with a certificate from the ESGR that is proudly displayed inside of the jail.

"I am incredibly grateful to be employed by the Norfolk Sheriff's Office under Sheriff Joseph Baron. The sheriff's office has been very supportive of my service with the Army National Guard and of myself as an individual.

NCCHC Acrred Logo 16x9Here's some great news coming out of the Norfolk Sheriff's Office we want to share.

The jail has officially passed the National Commission on Correctional Health Care reaccreditation assessment. This is not only important to NCJ employees, but also to inmates and their families.

We are proud of this achievement, and we hope you will be as well.
