Kaila 16x9I don't want to make too big of a deal over it, but if you haven't heard, August 18 was my last day as your P.I.O here at the Norfolk Sheriff's Office.

Don't worry- it was completely on my terms.

People love to say that if they had the chance to move away and start fresh, they would. However, when that chance comes around, most people don't do it. Sometimes its out of fear. Sometimes its because of family responsibilities. Other times, its because we are so comfortable in our everyday lives that the sheer thought of changing things up sends us into an eternal panic attack.

I recently had the chance to make a life change and I took it. I thoroughly enjoyed working as your PIO over the past two years. I don't have to get into details for you to realize just how much we've all been through together. The good, the bad, and the ugly. The fun, the sad, and the uncomfortable. The transitions, the laughs, and the tears. Despite everything, we got through it together and became stronger than ever.

To the nearly 500 of you who've allowed me to take pictures of you at events against your better wishes- thank you. For those of you who've let me share your stories internally and externally- thank you. Most importantly, I want to thank every, single one of you for embracing from the day I started at the NSO. As a former TV reporter, you had every reason to hesitate to trust me, yet (most) of you looked past of that and took me in as one of your own. That will forever mean the world to me.

As I move on to the next chapter in my life, I hope to be able to check in every once in a while and see continued progress. Continue to be there for each other. Make friends inside of the organization. Support your team members. Volunteer in the community on behalf of the office. Maintain a positive attitude. Most importantly, never be afraid to take chances. Take that promotion. Speak out even if your voice shakes. Never be afraid to share your opinions. The people are what make the NSO one of the best places to work in Hampton Roads.

My e-mail has been turned off, but if you'd like to keep in touch, feel free to find me on social media. I'm not a big Facebook fan, but you can keep up with me on Twitter and Instagram. Just search my name.

I wish you all the best in your careers and the perseverance to make the NSO proud.

Take Care,
