If you have a child headed to college to study Criminal Justice, or if you know of a friend or neighbor whose son or daughter will pursue the field of study, encourage them to apply for a 2014 Virginia Sheriffs’ Institute Scholarship. Money is available for both full and part time students who attend Virginia colleges and universities.

Norfolk residents must submit a letter of recommendation from Sheriff McCabe to accompany the application.  Applications are due in Richmond by May 1st.  Checks are made payable to the college of the student’s choice.

If interested, visit www.vasheriffsinstitute.org to download an application.  *Remember to obtain a letter of recommendation from Sheriff McCabe and he will send the application to Richmond before the May 1st deadline.  If you live in another city, the letter MUST come from the sheriff in the city in which you live.

He’s not freakish about his size, but NSO Deputy George Bell’s size has attracted national attention on AMC’s Freakshow which airs tonight at 9:30pm. Deputy Bell, a towering 7 feet, 8 inches tall, says he’s “just himself” on today’s series which was taped in Venice Beach.

The show is a reality show depicting “exceptional people, specimens and creatures.” Bell says he had a good time during the taping and was intriqued with some of the other stars of the show.

Deputy Bell is the second tallest living man in America.
