It’s one of the outward changes taking place in 2014 for the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office.

The NSO is in the process of transitioning to the dark blue uniforms from the traditional brown uniform (shown at right, being worn by NSO Captain Joe Baron).  The transition should be complete by the end of the first quarter (2014).  Sheriff McCabe says the change in uniforms is strictly a cost-savings move.   He expects it to save as much as 45 thousand dollars the first year.   The NSO patch will also change but will be distinguishable from the Norfolk Police patch.   Sheriff McCabe says the new uniform is comfortable and prompting a lot of “favorable comments.”

Norfolk Sheriff Bob McCabe teamed up with Chesapeake Sheriff Jim O’Sullivan and PortAlliance Federal Credit Union’s Robin Engelhart  to distribute 100 Christmas food baskets in each of their cities.

PortAlliance donated 200 turkeys, 16-pounds each, and the attractive pine green insulated bags the sheriffs are holding. Employees from each of the sheriffs’ offices pitched in and filled the bags with trimmings to go with the turkeys.

Sheriffs McCabe and O’Sullivan, along with PortAlliance Federal C.U. were definitely making spirits bright!
