High School Diploma and GED program

NSO teamed up with Norfolk Public Schools to send two teachers into the jail every day to help nonviolent offenders earn their GEDs. About 30 students graduate from the GED program inside the jail each year, increasing their chance of employment by 40 percent. Additionally, teachers help incarcerated students keep up with courses so they can receive a full high school diploma once they are released from jail.

Personal Finance class

The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office offers an eight-week personal finance class for inmates. Teachers give lessons on issues like, developing savings plans, checking accounts, mortgages and establishing credit.

The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office provides a full-time professional Chaplain/Inmate Rehabilitation Coordinator who coordinates all religious services, volunteers, and rehabilitation programs. Religious services and rehabilitation programs are available to all eligible inmates.
