The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office has been voted one of the best places to work in Hampton Roads by “Inside Business” publication several times since 2010.

We serve our community by running the Norfolk City Jail, Courthouse security and delivering legal papers, like evictions and subpoenas. Retired Sheriff Bob McCabe created numerous programs to give inmates second chances, including allowing non-violent inmates to work in the community, and at local businesses, and NSO continues to sponsor and expand on those programs.

We also provide crime prevention and services for seniors and kids in Norfolk.

Our passionate health-and-wellness director offers free fitness classes during lunch breaks, and private health coaching upon request.

Most of all, Interim Sheriff Baron strives to create a great team that feels like a big family. Our staff enjoys employee appreciation days, birthday holidays, and complimentary, summer cookouts at work.

We hope you’ll enjoy our videos, get to know us, and consider joining our team.

Read our Code of Ethics

On January 22, 2004, The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office became the 52nd law enforcement agency in Virginia to achieve accreditation.

State accreditation is a significant badge of honor in law enforcement. The achievement made the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office the first Sheriff’s Office in South Hampton Roads to be accredited in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Meeting the high standards of The Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission is the best measure of a law enforcement agency’s compliance with professional law enforcement standards.
